Straley Real Estate, Inc., was formed in the spring of 1976 in Paulding with three partners, Edward Straley, Rudy Straley, and William C. Straley. Their apprenticeship was under the brokerage of Yoder’s Realty, Inc., in Defiance. After operating for 2 1/2 years under Yoder’s name, the partners received a broker’s license and operated solely under their corporate name.
In 1980 Pat Davis of Pat Davis Realty approached William Straley with an offer to buy her real estate company and assign her listings to him. Thus, Straley started business in Van Wert County as Pat Davis Realty, William C. Straley, principle broker.
During the next three years, Straley worked out of both the Paulding office and the Van Wert office. As business increased, he found it necessary to spend more time in Van Wert and ultimately sold his interest in the Paulding company to his partners. At this time Davis and Straley agreed to change the company name to Straley Realty & Auctioneers and later to incorporated the real estate business.
Straley’s staff now includes 5 licensed real estate brokers and about 20 licensed agents, many of whom do real estate full time. Eleven of these associates also are licensed auctioneers or apprentice auctioneers. Total sales volume over the last 36 years is over $400,000,000.00 with over 6000 closings during that period of time. With population of Van Wert County being slightly under 30,000 residents and the City of Van Wert being slightly under 10,000 residents, the associates have become well versed in all phases of real estate brokerage and auction services. We are involved in all types of sales including residential, farmland, commercial, industrial and personal property.
Our mission statement very simply summarizes the goals we have for the public to serve: “EVERY THING WE TOUCH . . . TURNS TO SOLD!” The professionalism, energy and enthusiasm of all associates over the years have truly verified this statement. Last year Straley Realty held a 60 percent market share of sales of real estate companies in Van Wert County.
